Dr. Diane Waryold

Dr. Diane M. Waryold (she/her/hers pronouns) is a professor and former program director in the Student Affairs Administration program. She is in her 20th year of teaching at App State and has entered phased retirement whereby she will be teaching on a half time basis.

Waryold prides herself in identifying as a first-generation college student and a native New Yorker. She was an accomplished student affairs administrator for 25+ years before moving into the faculty role. Prior to moving to App State, Waryold served as Executive Director of the International Center for Academic Integrity (ICAI) and Program Administrator for the Kenan Institute for Ethics at Duke University. She is a founding and charter member of the Association for Student Judicial Affairs (ASJA) - now the Association for Student Conduct Administration (ASCA) and served as president in 1995.

Waryold credits SACSA (Southern Association of College Student Affairs) as a welcoming association where she got her start in service to the profession. She was recently awarded the Melvene Draheim Hardee Award from SACSA and considers this award to be a full circle professional moment and a pinnacle of her successful career.

She is also the recipient of the Donald D. Gehring Award from the Association Student Conduct Administration (ASCA).

Waryold has presented programs, published, and consulted on campus student conduct, sexual misconduct, campus safety and policing, crisis management, and academic integrity throughout the country. Her research interests include student conduct, college students and technology consumption, and restorative benefits of the outdoors.

She is an active Disaster Services volunteer for the American Red Cross.

In her “free” time, she likes to spend time with family friends and her pups and she loves the great outdoors (hiking, camping, cycling, kayaking, traveling etc).
