Dejanell “Daisy” Mittman is a licensed school counselor in North Carolina and a National Board Certified School Counselor. She has worked as a professional school counselor in Title I elementary schools for nine years and served on her district's school counseling leadership team. She earned her Ph.D. in counselor education from North Carolina State University and her Master of Science and Education Specialist degree in school counseling from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro.
Dejanell has a keen interest in school-family partnerships and has done much work in her most recent role as district Social Emotional Learning (SEL) Specialist to collaborate with families in support of student well-being. Her research interests include school counselor turnover and retention, effective field placement experiences for school counselors in training, and school counselor wellness.
She is a member of the Association for Counselor Education and Supervision, the American School Counselor Association, the North Carolina School Counselor Association, and the American Counseling Association.
In 2026, Dejanell was selected as a member of the American School Counselor Association’s 2026–2028 Emerging Scholars cohort, a national program recognizing early‑career school counselor educators and researchers poised to make significant scholarly contributions to the field.
