Dr. Stacey Garrett

Dr. Stacey D. Garrett is an associate professor of higher education at Appalachian State University in Boone, North Carolina. Originally from Virginia, she received her Ph.D. in Educational Leadership- Higher Education from Clemson University and joined the faculty at Appalachian State in 2017. She also serves as the program director for the M.A. in Higher Education overseeing curriculum, enrollment, and advising processes while teaching graduate courses in the master’s and doctoral degree programs.

The theme of her research agenda is the diversification of higher education through an exploration of the experiences of Faculty, Students, and Staff of Color at predominantly White institutions. Her work includes submissions in the Journal of Diversity in Higher Education and New Directions for Community Colleges, along with book chapters in released and forthcoming works. She has also presented at the annual meetings of various national/international higher education and student affairs conferences.

She is a member of ACPA- College Student Educators, International and the Association for the Study of Higher Education (ASHE).

Additionally, she holds a Master of Education in counseling psychology with a concentration in college student personnel administration from James Madison University and a Bachelor of Business Administration in marketing from the College of William and Mary. Before joining the faculty at App State, she worked in entry- and mid-level positions in residence life and fraternity/sorority life at Longwood University and Clemson University, respectively.

Dr. Garrett has received numerous awards including ACPA Class of 2022-2024 Emerging Scholar, 2020 RCOE Outstanding Service Award, and 2019 and 2020 Outstanding Learning Partner for International Alternative Service Experience.
